Last night I thought I should prep up the car for its impending brakes overhaul. Unfortunately I had left it for a month without taking it out or turning it over. The good news is that it started first time within a couple of seconds which was a relief. I remembered Pete was looking for original plastic air intakes and I thought I had one bagged up in the boot from when I bought the car. I opened up the bag to find a plenum chamber complete with black plastic plenum tubes. So it looks like I've finally found my confirmation that my tii is the short lived version with the 121ti head. As far as I understand thats quite a rarity which is just the sort of news I was needing after totting up how much I'll need to spend on the brakes!

for half a year, there was a 2002tii with a 121ti head. This early tii used 10:1 compression pistons and was fitted with the larger 46mm intake valves that were later put on al the E12 heads. The resulting 142 horsepower was used to push a 3.45 rear end. At 4000 rpm, where their 3.64 rear end ratio puts most other 2002s at about 70 mph, the early ‘72 tii hums closer to 80. The car is most easily recognized by the black plastic plenum tubes on the engine’s intake; later tiis used metal ones.
They are a rare motor Damon and for some reason those
early Tii's were better put together and made with
better steel as the story goes.
I guess its all relative now, all those cold wet salty
winters later on what's survived and how and why. I
like so many others feel obligated to save as many as
possible. Especially those early 02's.

Thanks for the chat earlier Paul. Apologies if I struggled to hear at some points, I was walking along the main ring road on the fringe of the congestion zone as I was on my way to meet the missus. She didnt understand my ramblings about how lucky I was to find my 02 though!
