Subject: [bmw02] Close ratio steering box – feeler
Following the discussion on 'Heavey steering', I got thinking about the Close Ratio Steering Box. I'm building an s14 2002 and could do with Close Ratio Steering, but I'm sure this steering box <http://bmw02.jiglu.com/tags/topics/steering-box> would also be useful in most 02's. As the gear sets are NLA <http://bmw02.jiglu.com/tags/topics/nla> now for close ratio I got thinking about reproduction. The Turbo <http://bmw02.jiglu.com/tags/topics/turbo> 02 had a close ratio box and I think Alpina <http://bmw02.jiglu.com/tags/topics/alpina> also made one too, but both are as rare as hens teeth. I got talking to a friend who is a CAD technician and If I could get on loan the gear set for a close ratio steering box I could get the gears scaned and possibly reproduced. The result would be a new gear set to convert your existing steering box <http://bmw02.jiglu.com/tags/topics/steering-box> to close ratio. The obvious economies of scale would apply to reduce the cost of production so I think a minimum of 10 people for a group buy <http://bmw02.jiglu.com/tags/topics/group-buy> would be needed. This is just a feeler to gauge peoples thought initially, obviously we would also need to source a gear set too. Regards
