2002's in Australia
Hi, I have recently joined and am trying really hard to find a decent 02 in Australia, specifically Sydney. I had a look at a tii at the weekend 10K AUD and rust everywhere. I have had 02's on and off for the last 20 years and really miss owning one. I would like a tii so if anyone out there has any ideas contacts etc in Sydney please can you let me know.
I have thought about importing one but I would need to get someone to do an inspection, does anyone know of a company that will do this in the UK?
I have noticed there is a nice tii on Richards site this month, that would be perfect should the the previously mentioned service available.
Thanks.
Hi Richard
A good Tii in Australia is hard to find. Very rare in deed. I have one but it was brought in by me from Singapore a few years ago. There is a nice Tii for sale that has been completely rebuilt in NSW. You can have a look at it on Carsales.com.au. A very nice car but not that cheap. However, when you see the work done on the car you will appreciate it. Watch out there are some bad ones out there.
I have included a couple of pictures the seller sent me. You can see the extent of the rebuild.
Brad.
Richard,
I can do an inspection for a fee, depending where in the UK as well. You get a 3 page written report & hundreds of images to back the report up. It usually takes at least 6 hours.
So if you find one in S.E England let me know. If it's in the Midlands I do know someone that "might" be able to help.
Good luck hunting.
Richard.

I have actually spoken to this guy I think his name is Michael, he sent me a couple of images as well, the only thing that concerened me is that he didnt do much to the engine, he says he had some work done on the injection pump and has fitted a 5 speed box, I was just a little dubious as it is quite expensive and I am unsure of the engine. saying that he looks like he has done a good job on everything else.
I agree he certainly seems to have done the body well. I will go and see the car as soon as I can.
Is your tii silver, with minilites and AC, I have seen 1 in Aus on the web from Singapore previously?
Keep you posted. Thanks.
Richard, I may take you up on this.
I have seen so many nice 02's go through the site, a recent example the Baur in Herts, I used to live just around the corner....very frustrating, also the Yellow A4s that was on a while back.
I will look into how I import a car into Aus, it would certainly be a way around the dire shortage over here. I am going to look at an 02 thats "restored" very shortly here in Sydney, however would you be able to give me an idea of the cost involved in an inspection?
Thanks.

I agree. However, the 02 engines are well bolted together both Tii and carb versions. Should be okay if you hear it running well. One drive will be a good indication. Let me know if you get out to see it.

pump rebuilt in the USA a few years ago and my brother in Canada
handed over the entire top end of a Tii engine to me. I guess you have
seen my car on-line somewhere – it is the Tii you mentioned with
(Superltes by Performance wheels in Oz not minilites) and ACGlad to help source anything. My car is stored with a fellow in Perth
with a very large garage filled with about 8 2002's now.Brad.
Well I went to see the Tii, there was my first mistake, or perhaps not, it really has been stripped repaired, cleaned and put back together, from the owners work sheets that read at least 600hrs of work I gleamed that for an 02 of this quality it has cost more than twice the asking price to arrive at where it is today. There is a complete file of photos of the work that has been done and looking around at the quality of the current restorations in the owners garage only leads you to confidence in the work done.
So I went for a test drive, me, my wife my six yr old and the owner, it pulled like a train even with 4 people in it, so it would appear that the engine is indeed ok, it handled better than 02 I have had and generally I thought it a very good example.
I went home and of course Procrastinated, had pre buyers remorse (don't ask)
Yep I bought it, drove it home last night in the rain, filthy night in Sydeny, but smiled all the way. I hadnt got 5 mins down the road when I had more than a few admiring glances from other cars.
Still cant believe that I own it and can't wait to get out at the weekend in it. One drive has sqashed any buyers remorse (stupid I know).
Anyway, I will upload some pictures as soon as I get a chance both here and if Richard wants them for car of the month. watch this space.

Great to hear you bought the car! I am sure it will be well look after by you. Make sure you keep the bird crap off of it. Can't wait to see the photos when you get them out. You should also make sure Richard in London features it on his COTM web site next month.
