Weekend car adventures early July 08 - Paul Hill

Another interesting couple of 02 related days. I become the middle man in a 1600 full Cabriolet deal. A party from Germany and a party from Northern Ireland converged on Bury St Edmunds. Our German party had done a deal buying a 1600 for restoration and the NI party had agreed to transport the vehicle 'halfway', which was the Hill House Suffolk. I think I was the most exited out of everyone. The 1600 had taken a very soft knock in the rear some time ago and the with the insurance pay out a full restoration was planned but never executed although all brand new BMW panels were purchased some 8-9 years ago. I think everything was there but the floor pans. It's now going to have a full nut and bolt restoration it deserves and will make a cracking little soft top, it's a shame its going abroad. I called my friend over who also owns 1600 Cab to take a look and it turned out the cars were only 30 apart on the chassis both being late production cars. I felt a little sad today watching it go up the road and not being pushed back into our garage. Still I have some Alpina springs and Bilstein inserts and dampers to try out on the Touring. Trying to get that ride height looking right and be comfortable also. I hope this sorts it out at last. If these don't play ball its back to the original set up which is pretty good in the first place!! I hope to see some of you at Harewood House this coming Sunday the 13th. I'm already praying for glorious sunshine and an interesting turnout of old and new bimmers.

all the best Paul Hill
