Regretfully, I am considering parting company with my 1975 tii. It has, in the last 10 years or so, been the subject of a total restoration (bodywork by Jaymic). As such it is in superb condition inside and out. It has recently had a new clutch and four new continental tyres. Comes complete with a set of e30 basketweaves fitted and the original 13" alloys and tyres (unkerbed but in need of repainting etc). I also have an e21 5 speed gearbox which I may include for the right price.

If anyone is interested please do let me know (I can send photos or discuss).

Thanks

John

Hi Killian,

a colleague at work here in Craigavon has an old Mondeo with Registration UIB 2002 - would anyone be interested in buying it?

Hi, How much - of course we only want the plate. Rich.

Guess what we need to know is when the plate was issued. Not much use if after 1976 for a 2002 babe 'cos you can't transfer it !

Firstly, I hope many of you had a great weekend in Lelystad.

Further to the below, one or two of you have asked for more information (with apologies to anyone who is not interested):

The car (which is just a '74 not '75 as stated below) had a bare shell restoration in the 1990's whilst in the ownership of a family member and has seen little use since. It is in superb overall condition for its age having always been garaged in the following years.

This car is not in "condition one" but potentially could be and is very good as you can see in the photographs. As you all well know, 02s in this condition are unusual and increasingly sought after.

It will have a new MOT when sold.

BODYWORK

Whenever people see this car they comment on its condition. In my opinion the colour suits it. It is a gunmetal/brown metallic. The body is still in great order apart from a small (around 2cms approx) blister (paint is actually just broken) on the rear passenger side arch.
The body is free of any significant dents, and the paintwork is excellent, with just a few minor scratches.
It is not concourse, but much, much better than most cars, regardless of their age. The car has been garaged. The chrome is in good condition all round.

The vehicle has been regularly waxoiled.

INTERIOR

The interior fittings, dash, headlining, door trims, carpets, steering wheel, etc are all in good condition. There are no rips or tears to the seats although at the risk of being pedantic they are mildly sun faded in places (along the top of the rear seat) although not to the overall detriment of the interior in my view.

The original radio has been replaced by a modern face-off item but I have an original equipment item (for a 2002tii - untested) which I will provide with the car). Shelf mounted Goodmans speakers are currently fitted although these could easily be removed if required.

The drivers side window does have a tendency to stick and I have not had time to investigate this. The passenger door clicks when opened - I am not sure why although I suspect it it the metal strap that stops it swinging open too far. Other than the click it seems okay.

UNDER THE BONNET

As you will see in the photographs, the engine bay looks good. Everything is very clean, and OE stickers are in place and there are no signs of rust.

Little used since, the car has been serviced within the last year or so, so air & fuel filters, plugs and points were replaced.

The radiator has also been replaced in the last 18 months as was the clutch around a year ago, as a result of an extended period of storage which affected the release mechanism.

IN THE BOOT

The boot area is in good condition, although the carpet could do with a clean.

ON THE ROAD

This vehicle is a pleasure to drive and still feels tight.  There are no knocks or rattles from the engine or suspension and it’s obvious when you drive it that it has been well maintained.  There is a slight smell of petrol especially on start up - but we are tqalking about a mid 1970s car! The exhaust colour is quite dark so it may be running a little rich.

All tires (including the spare) have been very recently replaced. Other than the spare (which is alos new but a lesser make)  they are Continental 14" and in my experience are superb and long lasting. They are also German so seemed to me especially like the right choice!

HISTORY FILE

The car has:-

1. Drivers pack with original owners handbook.
2. BMW dealer directory for 1973 and service book stamped by the supplying main BMW dealer; the last main service shown was at 23252 miles in 1976!
3. V5 showing 4 former keepers
4. Other than that much of the history has unfortunately been lost.

What else can I say? In my view it's a great 02 and I hope to find it a good home. As a guide I am looking for around £4.5k with the original 13" alloys and tyres (unkerbed but in need of repainting etc but with brand new centre caps) and the (unfitted) e21 5 speed gearbox (sourced from Martin Honeyborne). Ultimately I would like a fair oprice for this car and am  willing to haggle including possible exchange for a boring car (one of the many effects of parenthood!).

Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions.
